Kizhi
Kizhi Treatment in Ayurveda utilized to treat a person with joint stiffness, body aches, muscle-related pain, etc., who can opt for kizhi treatment. In this process, a cloth bag that contains necessary herbs, oils, rice, or powder is used to massage the affected part or whole body. Most of the time, a gentle hand massage is also given prior to the kizhi massage. Kizhi therapy helps to promote blood circulation and remove pain.
Njavarakizhi
Njavara is a rice which shows medicinal qualities. The njavara rice is cooked in cow’s milk with herbal decoctions. It is then filled in a cloth bag. A kizhi massage is being given to the body. It will strengthen muscle tissue, improve overall body tone, and enhance athletic performance.
Elakizhi
In this Kizhi Treatment, the cloth bag is filled with sautéed herbal leaves. It is then dipped in a warm herbal oil and a Kizhi Massage is done all over the body or in the affected area. The oil that is used to dip kizhi will be different for each body and disease. This Kizhi Therapy is used to treat Arthritis, muscle pain, or Spondylosis.
Podi Kizhi or Choornapindaswedam
This Kizhi is applied for treating Rheumatic Arthritis, swelling, paralysis, Spondylosis, backaches, and long-term muscle injuries. The main ingredient is the powdered herbal leaf mixed with herbal oil is used for this particular kizhi treatment. A 60-minute kizhi massage will be applied to the affected area.
Naranga Kizhi
In this type, lemon (naranga) is the primary ingredient. The lemon is cut and fried in a mixture of herbal oils and powders, then tied in a cloth bag. The kizhi is dipped in warm oil and massaged over the affected areas. This Kizhi treatment in Ayurveda is particularly useful for relieving joint and muscle pain. Here also, oil is selected based on the patient’s condition.
